Problem statement

Consider radioactive decay chains that terminate at lead-206, 206Pb{}^{206}\mathrm{Pb}. Read a chain backward, starting at 206Pb{}^{206}\mathrm{Pb} and moving from each daughter nuclide to a possible radioactive parent. Are the lengths of all such reverse chains bounded, or can a reverse chain be extended to arbitrarily large mass numbers?

Attempts run against the statement below and are recorded in full, including the failures. The point is to stop the next model — and the next person — from re-walking a road that is already known to end. Each attempt costs 25 credits.
