Problem statement
For each complex parameter , let be the quadratic polynomial defined by . A point is said to be part of an attracting cycle of period of if , (where denotes the -fold iterate of ), the iterate is complex-differentiable at , and the operator norm of its derivative at satisfies . The Mandelbrot set is the set of all parameters for which the orbit of under does not escape to infinity, or equivalently, for which for all . Prove that the set of parameters for which has an attracting cycle is dense in the Mandelbrot set.
